ABSTRACT

It also illustrates a general principle of origami design: that one can mix and match different styles and techniques in the same model, using particular design elements where they are needed. Many-perhaps most-origami designs are of this hybrid type. Circle packing techniques are powerful, but focusing solely on flap generation can be limiting; there are only so many subjects out there with 23 pairs of appendages. Nearly all of the techniques I’ve shown so far are based on the concept of a uniaxial base, but there are many potential origami subjects that do not fit into the stick-figure abstraction that is part and parcel of the uniaxial base.
