ABSTRACT

Public Law 107-347 was passed by the 107th U.S. Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush on December 17, 2002. Known as the “E-Government Act of 2002,” its stated purpose is the enhancement of “the management and promotion of electronic Government services and processes by establishing a Federal Chief Information O™cer within the O™ce of Management and Budget, and by establishing a broad framework of measures that require using Internet-based information technology to enhance citizen access to Government information and services, and for other purposes.” Although the security of information is not speci˜ed in this preamble, Title III (Information Security) of the statute requires federal agencies to establish agency-level information security programs that protect the information and information systems supporting agency operations and assets.
