ABSTRACT
With the vast majority of gas-phase reactions requiring the presence of a catalyst, usually supplied in the form of pellets or coatings, it stands to reason that these reactions would be dominated by mass transfer effects. In addition, many heterogeneously catalyzed gas-phase reactions are highly exothermic and it is therefore, imperative that any large releases of heat be effectively managed in order to maintain a safe and controlled process.
