ABSTRACT
Consider the following scenario: An agency has been tasked with moving an informant from his present location at a safe house to court and back again. The informant is a senior member of a large semiorganized criminal gang who is testifying against another gang member in order to beat his own narcotics violation case. It is believed that the gang is aware of the betrayal and has given the “green light” for the informant to be killed. The protective unit accomplishes the mission without a hitch. Does this sound familiar? It is probably carried out on a routine basis throughout the United States.
