ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to report the effects of elevated levels of CO2 on the phenology of plant growth. While phenology is not directly related to plant-water relations, we mention it because plant-water relations may indirectly be affected if phenology is changed by elevated CO2. For example, if elevated CO2 delays reproductive development, as we found for wheat (described in this chapter), then a plant is going to stay in the vegetative state longer. This means that there is more time for water to be lost from the leaves.
