ABSTRACT

The first game that was exported outside of Japan was developed as early as 1975 by Taito, a company that, like many others, started shifting its focus from vending and pinball machines to the new genre of entertainment. The game was originally called Western Gun and, due to its Wild West theme featuring a two-cowboy shootout, it was considered a good export candidate. Midway agreed to import it in North America and renamed it Gun Fight. Nutting Associates was also involved in modifying the game by including an Intel 8080 processor for a smoother handling of the graphics, thus turning it into the first arcade game to leave Japan and the first one to use a CPU.
