ABSTRACT

While the revamped 2600 Jr. and the Atari 7800 were released in 1986, the company’s energies remained focused on home computers, with the ST as the most successful product.23 Nonetheless, Atari was always caught in an uneasy situation. For most people, the name “Atari” remained synonymous with “video games” and, while losing ground to Nintendo and Sega in the entertainment sector, the company wasn’t really able to change its image completely into a “respectable” computer manufacturer where the Commodore Amiga was still outselling the ST worldwide by a 3:2 ratio.
