ABSTRACT

Suppose we are given data from a computer that represents the design of a new home as developed by an architect. The data consists of black lines on a white background. Some of the lines are straight, some are curved, and some are at different angles relative to the border of the drawing. Many of the lines are used to form readable characters. Our assumption is that the design of the home is “computer aided” and that the architect is no longer interested in producing drawings using a pencil and paper (or vellum) by hand. If a machine could produce these drawings, the architect could make a new copy each time a change is made. This would also allow for the automated production of many copies of the same drawing for distribution to builders, vendors, and clients.
