ABSTRACT
Pseudomonas sensu stricto is an extensive genus of gramnegative bacteria comprising several species of medical importance. Most human infections are opportunistic and associated with impaired host susceptibility. Pseudomonas aeruginosa represents the major pathogenic species of this group and causes a variety of acute and chronic illnesses. Infections with other species are rarely encountered, but can also be serious.
