ABSTRACT

A development process that yields a solution for humans can appropriately be de£ned in a number of ways. The International Standards Organization (ISO) refers to a usercentered approach as Human-Centered Design (ISO 1999). Although one can £nd a human-centered approach articulated in a range of nomenclatures and semantics, all of these descriptions advocate requirements-gathering activities based on user characteristics, goals, and tasks. From a methodological perspective, the essential aspect of any user-centered approach is that it is multidisciplinary, systematic, and empirical (e.g., Weiss 2008).
