The size and scope of the video game industry has grown dramatically over the past several years. In 2007, the market for games (excluding hardware) was over 9.5 billion, a £gure rivaling the annual box of£ce take in the £lm industry

(Bangeman 2008). In 2008, the video game market was even larger, with game sales of over $11.7 billion and almost 300 million individual games sold (Entertainment Software Association 2009).
