ABSTRACT

The study of seizures and epilepsy requires a common language to describe what happens to the patient. Agreed upon de–nitions are necessary. Observations detailing seizure behavior remain the standard of care since EEG recordings are generally not available for a suf–ciently long duration to capture an event in the great majority of patients. The patients undergoing the most intense study are usually the most dif–cult to control, often with signi–cant comorbidity. Nonetheless, even if recordings were available, their interpretation would need to be replicable. This chapter will present some of the explanations as to why studies have signi–cant variability.
