ABSTRACT
An important part of any CIO’s job is to make sure that the systems deliver what is needed by the business to operate e«ectively. On-line businesses like e-Bay mean that uptime is measured in ™ve nines (99.999%). Where downtime costs money means that the highest requirement is availability. In some cases, the delivery of services means sacri™cing security for the moment, such as in companies like FedEx and UPS. že requirement for making sure the package is delivered on time is the most important part of their business. Synchronizing vehicles to make delivery must be managed. More e«ective synchronization means greater cost e«ectiveness and improved customer satisfaction.
