ABSTRACT

The importance of creating a sketch of the parts and the chain of dimensions and tolerances that make up the tolerance stackup cannot be overstated. Creating the sketch is perhaps the most important event that must occur when performing a tolerance stackup. Experience has shown that the sketch helps the tolerance analyst visualize the chain of dimensions and tolerances, and it helps others understand the tolerance stackup after it is complete. Creating the tolerance stackup sketch should be the ¢rst step when starting a tolerance stackup. The sketch should always be done prior to ¢lling out the tolerance stackup report form.
