ABSTRACT
In 1998, the General Accounting OfŽce (GAO) documented concerns with the DOD’s management of its inventory of equipment. GAO found that the DOD’s inventory exceeded its war reserve or current operating requirements but lacked key spare parts based on inadequate accountability on material shipments and ineffective monitoring of defective spare parts.
