ABSTRACT

Insects in the orders Coleoptera, Thysanoptera, Hemiptera (Heteroptera), Diptera, and Neuroptera may feed on mites that are pests in agricultural crops. These predatory insects can be used in two ways in integrated mite management (IMM) programs: conservation and augmentation. Because of concerns about unintended consequences, the release of generalist predators probably is not appropriate in classical biological control programs.
