ABSTRACT

This chapter brie©y introduces you to the basic morphology and physiology of mites and ticks, as well as their behavior and genetics. Their small size, typically approximately 0.5 to 1 mm in length, is associated with an apparent loss of true segmentation and a reduction in internal and external structures (Evans et al. 1961, Krantz 1971, Jeppson et al. 1975, Helle and Sabelis 1985, Evans 1992, Houck 1994, Walter and Proctor 1999, Krantz and Walter 2009).
