Distance Measures in Information and Engineering

In this section and the next we somewhat detach ourselves from the discussion of the previous chapters and consider the use of the distance measures described in this book in the context of information science and engineering. For this purpose we use the established notation in this field, even if that may be at variance with the notation of the previous ten chapters. In this chapter we will refer to a probability density function defined on an appropriate set X as a “probability function.”
