ABSTRACT
The era of churn drills in the mining and quarrying industry started declining with the introduction of the rotary blasthole drill in the late 1940s. Soon after the introduction of the model 50R top drive rotary drill by Bucyrus Erie Company in 1952, most of the mines shifted to rotary drilling and the era of churn drills ended by about 1960.
