ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with many aspects related to the generation of compressed air in an air compressor.
Blasthole flushing is covered in a separate chapter due to its specific importance.
8.2 COMPRESSED AIR
Compressed air is nothing but atmospheric air that is pressurized in a device called a compressor. A compressor sucks the atmospheric air and applies pressure to it. In this process the air becomes thicker i.e. its density increases. To keep the density at the desired level the air absorbs and stores energy supplied by the compressor.
