The developed desktop fabrication system employed with the ELID grinding process is composed of the following machines and units:
• Desktop slicing machine • Desktop lapping machine • Desktop multiaxes grinding/cutting machine • Desktop microtool grinding machine • Micro-ELID (MQL/electrodeless) and truing devices • (On-machine) measuring function/unit
These machines and units can work individually and work harmoniously. Each desktop machine can mount an ELID grinding system to enable high accuracy machining for hard materials. Because grinding resistance can be minimized by the ELID grinding performance and the pro‘le of a grinding wheel can be kept for a long time by the high toughness of its metallic bond, a good surface roughness is ef‘ciently obtained with high mesh sizes. The features of the developed desktop machines are as follows, also as shown in Figure 8.2.
