ABSTRACT

Most often, a reduction in wettability against aqueous liquids is desired. In order to prevent the liquid feathering and/or penetration, the sizing agent should provide a hydrophobic character to the cellulose ˆbers. The term “sizing” is generally limited to the process whereby a chemical additive provides paper products with resistance to wetting, penetration, and absorption by aqueous liquids (ink, milk, etc.) [2-4].
