ABSTRACT

Anthraquinones are the derivatives of anthraquinone[1]. The C-1, C-4, C-5, C-8 of anthraquinone (9,10-anthracenedione) are also known as α position, the C-2, C-3, C-6, C-7 known as β position, and C-9, C-10 known as meso position. The substituents of anthraquinones could be methyl, hydroxymethyl, carboxyl, or formyl as well as hydroxyl or methoxyl. Hydroxyl groups are present in most naturally occurring anthraquinones.
