ABSTRACT
Interchangeability of manufactured parts, on which both national and international trade in such parts depends, requires that the calibration of the CMM be traceable to the national standard and, ultimately, to the international standard. The international standard of length to which CMM measurements need to be traceable is the meter, which is part of the International System of Units (SI) or the modernized metric system (BIPM 2006; Taylor and Thompson 2008; Thompson and Taylor 2008).
