ABSTRACT

Coproducts are one key to the economic viability of fuel ethanol production. As the industry has grown, the importance of distillers grains has also increased. Through the course of our discussions, we hope that it has become apparent that distillers grains, particularly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), have become very important animal feed ingredients in the United States. The production level is expected to rise to nearly 40 million metric tons in the next few years, and as evidenced by increasing export levels (which are anticipated to consume almost one-fourth of all U.S. DDGS during 2010), DDGS is becoming a principal feed ingredient globally as well.
