ABSTRACT

Quite often, what is needed-or at least desired-in a derivative origami design is not just a rearrangement of the existing paper, but actually a bit more paper somewhere: a longer leg, an extra set of appendages, another petal on the flower, another horn on the beetle. At such times, you might have a nearly complete design (either your own or someone else’s) to which you would like to add a bit more structure, but there’s no more paper from which to make the new bits. At such times-particularly if you’ve already put a great deal of work

into the model-the prospect of starting over from scratch can be downright depressing.
