ABSTRACT

In this chapter, it is my goal to offer insight into the ways new informationsharing technologies can be used to improve communication, an essential element of disaster preparedness and response, thereby saving lives and property and ensuring that resources are shared and there is no duplication or waste in response efforts. These new technologies, which we noted as posing unique challenges for emergency managers in communicating with the public in Chapter 2 of this book, can be harnessed for their potential to improve communications for both ofcial response agencies and the general public alike.
