ABSTRACT
A comprehensive review of statistics is beyond the scope of this book. However, the science of adaptive clinical trials requires a good working knowledge of basic statistics, partly because the eld is young and evolving, partly because much of the present literature on adaptive designs is statistical, and partly because adaptive designs require somewhat more sophisticated understanding of statistics than conventional trials. This chapter discusses conventional statistics and the next chapter discusses statistics specically related to adaptive designs.
