ABSTRACT

Part II and Chapter 7 of this book dealt with Bayesian evaluation of informative hypotheses. In this chapter two other approaches for the evaluation of informative hypotheses are introduced. The first approach evaluates informative hypotheses by means of p-values, that is, null hypothesis significance testing. An important reference for this approach is Silvapulle and Sen (2004). The second approach provides an evaluation by means of a modification of Akaike’s information criterion (Akaike, 1987) such that it can be applied to the evaluation of informative hypotheses. Important references for this approach are Anraku (1999); Kuiper, Hoijtink, and Silvapulle (In Press); Kuiper, Hoijtink, and Silvapulle (Unpublished); and Kuiper and Hoijtink (Unpublished).
