ABSTRACT

Licorice is a perennial herb native to regions of the Mediterranean, central and southern Russia, Asia Minor, and parts of Iran. It is now widely cultivated throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia (Blumenthal, Goldberg, and Brinckmann 2000). Licorice, described as “the grandfather of herbs,” has been used medicinally since 500 BC (Ody 2000).
