ABSTRACT

Osteoporotic fracture is becoming a major public health problem in Asia. With the rapidly aging populations, it is projected that by year 2050, half of the world’s hip fracture incidence will occur in Asia (Cooper et  al., 1992). Hip and spine fractures are associated with substantial morbidity, mortality, and economic costs in China, but preventive efforts are still minimal (Dai et al., 2007). Low bone mineral density (BMD) or osteoporosis is the most important risk factor for osteoporotic factures. Established risk factor for osteoporosis are advanced age, genetic, menopause, low body weight, and lifestyle factor variables (NAMS, 2010).
