ABSTRACT

Proteins belonging to thermophilic organisms have the capacity to sustain high temperatures while maintaining a folded structure and preserving functionality. Understanding thermostability is one of the challenges regarding proteins that attract great attention from the scienti’c community. Thermostability is key to the comprehension of the crucial elements that keep proteins folded as well as determining the mechanisms that modulate stability. In the past, most research has focused on comparing mesophilic, thermophilic, and hyperthermophilic homologues (i.e., proteins belonging to the same family) with host organisms nearby in the philogenetic tree and sharing large portions of the amino acid sequence. A small difference of
