ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces and discusses various aspects of launching and teaching a green chemistry lecture course in the undergraduate curriculum. First, several challenges are identi’ed. This is followed by a detailed description of the course I taught at York University over an eight-year period, including feedback from students and library staff. Explanations are offered for both what went right and what could be improved in my experience. A number of exemplary case studies from the course highlighting pedagogical merits of discussing green chemistry principles in the classroom are discussed. The concluding section provides useful questions that instructors may think about and hopefully use in making up their own problem sets and assignments.
