ABSTRACT
Because employees bring to work a variety of devices that obtain power from a battery charger this author would be negligent if he did not mention what is referred to as phantom power. To do so, we examine the battery charger and why the charging of cell phones, laptops, notebooks, tablets, and other devices can result in the cost of electricity increasing while the device is fully charged, a situation that may make the electric utility happy but provides our organization with a bill that with a little effort could be smaller each month. Similarly, we also discuss the electrical consumption of other devices and methods that can be used to reduce the cost of electricity. If your
data center is located in an area where cooling occurs most of the year due to hot humid weather, your savings can actually be significantly more than what we compute. is is because devices that consume electricity generate heat, which then requires the expenditure of additional electricity to remove.
