ABSTRACT

A suicide bombing seems random, and only one individual appears to be involved. However, the act in most cases is far more organized, systematic, planned, and thought out than seems the case. The terrorists do not simply build a bomb, ‚nd someone bent on committing suicide, and send him or her off to ‚nd a target where the “enemy” gathers. To pit that single individual against a formidable enemy (as in the case of Palestinian suicide bombers against Israel) requires a whole set of tactical moves. To assure that the would-be bomber kills and wounds as many as possible, the bomber’s facilitators need to decide on the tactics related to the mission in advance and revamp them as conditions change.
