ABSTRACT

Introduction Management line of sight is a concept that goes to a manager’s understanding of the risks in their business and the level of assurance that those risks are controlled.

If the gap between the system as it is believed to work and the system as it actually operates represents a fundamental misunderstanding of the effectiveness of an organisation’s safety management system, line of sight is about trying to understand that gap and close it. What are managers expected to know about the critical risks in their business and how they are controlled? And how do managers “see into” their organisations to gain an understanding of those risks and their controls?
