ABSTRACT

Getting on with conducting a funded research project One of the most positive aspects of winning an award is the feeling of optimism investigators get about the versatility of their ideas. This can help propel a research project, but it also carries the risk of quickly degenerating into a self-aggrandizing attitude to lose sight of the work that lies ahead. In this chapter, the aim is (a) to discuss the generic tasks that are commonly carried out while conducting funded research in universities, and (b) to describe some of the key activities that may affect the success of a research project, including how to transform a proposed research into a work plan, design work schedules, hire research personnel, and streamline the publication of research results.
