ABSTRACT

Hospital facilities consist of the buildings, ventilation systems, and equipment necessary to maintain the hospital indoor environment, including air quality. Hospital buildings are normally subdivided into zones served by separate ventilation systems. The outer envelope of a hospital building provides the Ÿrst line of defense against the intrusion of outdoor environmental microbes and, in conjunction with Ÿltration and pressurization control, should be capable of maintaining a high degree of air quality if the systems meet applicable codes and guidelines.
