ABSTRACT

The major purpose of Organizational Alignment is to design the organization in a way that it is best prepared to successfully fulfill the requirements and objectives of the organization’s plan. The organization’s plan is made up of two different but complementary plans: the Strategic Plan and the operating plan. Organizational Alignment is usually used in conjunction with developing or updating the organization’s Strategic Plan. As technology invades and enters everything we do, organizational transformation is becoming harder to manage, simply because the issues of alignment play out on a much grander scale. Only the simplest Organizational Alignment project will be successful without being accompanied by a very effective organizational change management process. Organizational Alignment occurs by design and follow-through. Without it, the outcome is hit or miss with a lot more misses than hits. It would be interesting for any organization to take a deeper look at the state of alignment between their business model, structures, people, rewards, and implementation.
