ABSTRACT

Phase V of the Organizational Alignment Cycle is developing a set of reward and recognition’s (R&R) processes that reinforce the organization’s Strategic Plan. The purpose of the R&R system is to reinforce behavior patterns that support the organization’s mission, vision, and Strategic Plan. Only the truly outstanding people should receive contribution awards and special recognition. Monetary awards are another class of recognition. The word “award” indicates it is a unique recognition of an individual or small group for unusual contributions to the organization’s goals. Of all recognition categories, private recognition is one of the most important because it directly relates to the interaction between management and the employee. Recognition of the group makes the group think that it’s a winner and the members of the group get a sense of belonging that leads to increased organizational loyalty. Again, management has an unlimited number of ways to recognize a group for contribution.
