ABSTRACT

Density is important next to the size of the particle. Density of the particle is defined as the mass of the particle per unit volume. The ratio of the density of the particle to the density of water is defined as specific gravity. In all beneficiation operations, particularly in Gravity Concentration operations, density, together with the size and the shape of the particles, has an important role. Pulp or slurry density is most easily measured in terms of the weight of the slurry per unit volume. A sample of slurry taken in container of known volume is weighed to give slurry density directly. From the grinding stage onwards, most mineral beneficiation operations are carried out on slurry streams. The water acts as a transportation medium. Dilution ratio is particularly important as the product of dilution ratio and weight of the solids in the slurry is equal to the weight of the water in the slurry.
