ABSTRACT

The reproductive system of the female pig consists of ovaries, similar to that of other mammals, long and tortuous fallopian tubes and a bicornuate type of uterus with epitheliochorial placentation. Pigs are polyestrous animals with an average estrous cycle of 21 days (range: 18-24 days) and an estrous of 2 days (range: 1-5 days). Typically, ovulation occurs 30-36 h after onset of estrous [10,11].
