ABSTRACT
The existence of professional organizations that operate on an individual basis for the purpose of research, data gathering, and consulting of…cials on key issues both politically and economically is paramount. It is the international organizations-these objective, nonbiased independent groupsthat often can make a difference of whether data or a study is objective and meaningful or not. This chapter discusses the key role of international organizations. It begins by taking a look at how international cooperation began and the role that international organizations subsequently took because of it. The chapter then focuses on some individual, notable groups to provide an overview of the roles they play in the international spotlight. Following that it will look at individual organizations and programs for an overview into the insight, function, and accomplishments of these groups. Finally, the chapter will look at the progress of individual countries and just how various nations of the world can work together toward the sustainable use of energy resources.
