ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates a running example from the insurance industry in the business area of managing insurance claims. Managing claims is actually one of the core processes in the insurance business. A technology-independent domain view of groups of coherent business processes for the claims business would be a suitable first modeling view. The chapter identifies the business processes within process groups for claims management and model the dependencies between them and presents the macroflow models of a subset of all identified claims management processes. The triage-and-assignment process contains only one user interface-related function and one corresponding role. The macroflow business processes that have been modeled as event-driven process chains need to be designed in Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) using WebSphere Integration Developer. The BPEL activities associated to user interaction with a corresponding user interface will be implemented via a service invocation as well.
