ABSTRACT

The expansion of LDR content is an emerging topic in the computer graphics community that links LDR and HDR imaging. This is achieved by transforming LDR content into HDR content using operators commonly termed expansion operator (EO) (see Figure 4.1). This allows the large amounts of legacy LDR content to be enhanced for viewing on HDR displays and to be used in HDR applications such as image-based lighting. An analogy to expansion is the colorization of legacy black and white content for color displays [117, 124, 231].
