ABSTRACT
The genus Onychocola is the only member of the mitosporic Arachnomycetaceae group, family Arachnomycetaceae, order Onygenales, class Eurotiomycetes, subphylum Pezizomycotina, phylum Ascomycota, and kingdom Fungi. Currently, the genus Onychocola consists of four species: Onychocola canadensis (teleomorph: Arachnomyces nodosetosus), Onychocola kanei (teleomorph: Arachnomyces kanei), Onychocola glareosa (teleomorph: Arachnomyces glareosus), and Onychocola sclerotica (teleomorph: Malbranchea sclerotica), of which Onychocola canadensis and possibly Onychocola kanei are implicated in subungual or super–cial onychomycosis in humans [1-3].
