ABSTRACT

The colonies of A. elegans on Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA) are fast growing, covering the agar plate over 7 days at 25°C.5-12 The colonies are ¼occose with erect mycelial growth, white when young, turning cream white to yellow on aging. However, the growth is non-pigmented on reverse. Colonies often fail to sporulate on routine SDA medium or on de–cient media like corn meal agar and potato dextrose agar (PDA). The fungus grows abundantly without sporulation at 25°C, 37°C, and 42°C (identi–cation point), though occasionally9 it may sporulate at the higher temperatures. It can grow up to 45°C.
