ABSTRACT
Various de’nitions of sustainability have been presented in earlier chapters. Its meaning in the context of rehabilitation has been integrated with the 3Rs: repair, recycle, reuse. The 3Rs classify waste management strategies according to their desirability. The waste hierarchy has taken many forms over the past decade, but the basic concept has remained the cornerstone of most strategies for minimizing wastes. The aim of the waste hierarchy is to extract the maximum practical bene’ts from products and to generate the minimum amount of waste and thus help sustainability.
