ABSTRACT

In•ammation (derived from the Latin word in™ammatio, “to set on ‹re”) in general is a complex biological response of vascular tissue to a variety of external and internal stimuli, which include but are not limited to various microbes, immune reaction, ultraviolet (UV) rays, physical damage, and the like. In•ammatory responses can be either bene‹cial or detrimental. In•ammation can be either acute or chronic. The acute in•ammatory responses are generally regarded as bene‹cial, while chronic in•ammation plays a major role in the etiology of different diseases, like cancer, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, diabetes, and neurological diseases (Aggarwal et al., 2006).
