ABSTRACT

An extensive review of literature in ethnobotany was carried out by Timothy Shepard of Oxford University to identify plants that have been used for treatment of jaundice and liver diseases (Blumberg et al., 1989). Of nearly 1,000 plants identi‹ed, 100 had been used in three or more global regions. Phyllanthus species were prominent in this list and were frequently used in India, China, Burma, Pakistan, Philippines, Guam, West Indies, South America, East and West Africa, tropics, and subtropics.
